He graduated from the Cleveland Art Institute in 1942 and spent the remainder of the war years illustrating flying manuals, safety posters and doing photography. He then went to Chicago where he did advertisement illustration for Coca-Cola. In 1951, he broke into magazine illustration, and his worked appeared in publications mentioned above as well as Esquire, Cosmopolitan and American Weekly.
