With the intentions of going into the medical field, Oakley attended the school of Dr. Nicholas at Ealing. Despite his academics Oakley worked with textile company, in Leeds. After many drawings and portraits of acquaintances, Oakley left the business to pursue a professional career in art. Oakley settled in Derby in c.1825. Here, he painted water-colors of portraits....
