Paul Dubois was born in 1829 in the north of France. He studied law, then attended the school of fine arts and worked at the studio of Armand Toussaint. After his studies he traveled to Rome where he was inspired by the imposing sculptures of the Renaissance masters. His sculptures were very popular throughout Europe and were reproduced in large quantities. To honour his creative talent Dubois was awarded several distinctions. He died in Paris in 1905.
