Paul von Spaun was one of the few students of the painter Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach, a visionary and free spirit who is best known for his unusual ideas of "life reform". As a disciple, Paul von Spaun belonged to the "Commune of the Himmelhof" founded by Diefenbach in Vienna-Hütteldorf.
