He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg with Valentin Serov and Ilya Repina. He relocated during World War I. to Prague, where he became a student and assistant Ferdinand Engelmüller. In the years 1922 to 1925 studied in Paris with Henry Matisse, who became his friend. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg with Valentin Serov and Ilya Repina. He relocated during World War I. to Prague, where he became a student and assistant Ferdinand Engelmüller. In the years 1922 to 1925 studied in Paris with Henry Matisse, who became his friend. He undertook his studies trips to Italy, India, Tibet, Japan, USA. However, he spent most of his life in Czechoslovakia, where he also died in 1977. Offered the painting was painted in 1924, during the artist's French period under under the influence of Henri Matisse.
