The German painter and graphic artist Philipp Franck was born in Frankfurt in 1860 and began his education as an architect on his father's request. After his father‘s death he devoted himself entirely to painting and started his studies at the Städelsche Kunstinstitut. He illustrated romantic fairytales, joined a painter’s colony and finished his studies at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. After his father‘s death he devoted himself entirely to painting and started his studies at the Städelsche Kunstinstitut. He illustrated romantic fairytales, joined a painter’s colony and finished his studies at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. In 1898, the renowned Impressionist painter became co-founder of the Berliner Sezession, together with Lovis Corinth and Max Liebermann. Franck died in 1944.
