Pierre Tal-Coat, whose real name was Pierre Louis Jacob, was a French artist considered to be one of the founders of Tachisme*. He was born the son of a fisherman, in the village of Clohars-Carnoët, Finistère in 1905. He attended primary school from 1912 to 1914. In 1915, during World War I, his father was killed in fighting at the Argonne front. In 1915, during World War I, his father was killed in fighting at the Argonne front. He started his working life as clerk to a notary in 1923 in Arzano.
