Born in Dresden, Ralf Kerbach studied at the local Academy of Fine Arts and attended the class of professor Gerhard Kettner, between 1977 and 1979. Kerbach has been active as a freelance artist ever since. Besides, he was the co-founder of the punk band 'Zwischenmaschine'. In 1982 Kerbach was forced to move to West Berlin, especially due to unofficial journalistic engagements. Kerbach has been active as a freelance artist ever since. Besides, he was the co-founder of the punk band 'Zwischenmaschine'. In 1982 Kerbach was forced to move to West Berlin, especially due to unofficial journalistic engagements. Scholarships and a number of artistic tasks enabled Ralf Kerbach to work in Olevano in 1986/87, in Paris in 1988, in Val Quieres near Montpellier from 1988 to 1990, and finally in Brazil in1991.
