He is a life-long Canadian who spent his childhood in Regina and loved exploring the natural world from an early age, having been allowed as a city boy to spend much time on an uncle's farm. He is a life-long Canadian who spent his childhood in Regina and loved exploring the natural world from an early age, having been allowed as a city boy to spend much time on an uncle's farm. He studied art at the University of Regina and the Kelsey Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. He has also attended the Scottsdale Artists' School and pursued ongoing studies at zoos in Toronto, Calgary, and Phoenix.
