He devoted himself to art in his spare time, otherwise he worked as a lathe operator, mason, fireman, glassworks worker, delivery man and construction worker. Rudolf Dzurko was born in 1941 into a "gypsy" family in Pavlovice in eastern Slovakia. At the age of four, he and his father went to work in northern Bohemia in places after the displaced Germans.
