By 1896 he was studying at the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Applied Arts) in Vienna, supported by a pair of small grants from the Freiherr Albert von Rothschild Foundation, and also at the Vienna Akademie der bildenden Künste (Academy of Fine Arts), where he studied under portrait painter August...
