After the war he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and continued in Paris with Fernand Leger. In 1951 he went to Germany to teach at Werkkunstschule Wuppertal. After the war he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and continued in Paris with Fernand Leger. In 1951 he went to Germany to teach at Werkkunstschule Wuppertal. Primarily a sculptor, he also was a painter and cinemaphotographer. In 1955 he won a Golden Palm at Cannes for his short film "The Vipers."
