Thaddaus (Tadeusz) Cieslewski (father, senior, elder) was born in 1870 in Warsaw. He studied painting at the Drawing School in Warsaw with W. Gerson and Kauzik. He spent the years 1895-1896 in Paris studying at the Academie Vitti and with E. Aman-Jean and R. Collin. In 1898 Thaddaus (Tadeusz) Cieslewski was awarded a silver medal for a series of postcards on Warsaw. In 1928 and 1951 he was awarded the City of Warsaw Award.
