He directed his first feature film, Pee-Wee?s Big Adventure, in 1985, and went on to direct Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Frankenweenie, and Sweeney Todd, to name but a few. He received the Leone d?Oro (Golden Lion) for lifetime achievement at the Venice Film Festival in 2007.
