He is also a watercolorist and sculptor who did many works relating to medieval themes of Knights, Death, and the Devil starting with the Orpheus legend, a theme he further explored through the writing of his own poetry. After serving in the United States Navy, he attended Central Connecticut Teachers College and the Vesper George School of Art in Boston.
