During 1844-46 he worked on the boundary survey between Canada and the U.S. At the outbreak of the Mexican War he was sent to California. During 1844-46 he worked on the boundary survey between Canada and the U.S. At the outbreak of the Mexican War he was sent to California. As a colonel with the Army of the West, he fought in the battles of San Gabriel, San Pasquale, and the plains of Mesa. Following the war he surveyed the U.S.-Mexican boundary. He sketched in his leisure, and his experiences were related in Military Reconnaissance from Fort Leavenworth in Missouri to San Diego in California and Report on the United States and Mexican Boundary Survey. Emory died in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 1, 1887.... Read full biography
