He began painting at the age of 6 in Smyrna, Turkey where he was born. When the Turkish government expelled the Greek population at the end of World War I, his family fled to Crete and later to Athens. Maltezos studied at the University of Athens School of Art. He worked as a set designer for the National Greek Theater prior to WWII.... Read full biography

He worked as a set designer for the National Greek Theater prior to WWII. At the end of WWII, he began to experiment with an abstract expressionist style. When the Turkish government expelled the Greek population at the end of World War I, his family fled to Crete and later to Athens. Maltezos studied at the University of Athens School of Art. He worked as a set designer for the National Greek Theater prior to WWII. At the end of WWII, he began to experiment with an abstract expressionist style. His drip technique appeared free-form but culminated in subtle, central motifs. Maltezos continually evolved as an artist, he innovated his own styles and refused to repeat himself.
