After graduating, he began working in Kraków, then in Rzeszów, returning to his hometown in 1955 and taking up a position as a visual artist at the local Autosan factory. It was in Sanok that he began his artistic career, initially focusing on photography, sculpture, and drawing. His wife, Zofia, whom he married in 1951, posed for many of his groundbreaking photographs.
