They traveled together in Europe the first five years of their marriage and then settled in New York City where she took a studio in Greenwich Village. Gertrude and several others organized the American Abstract Artists Association and also worked with the Artists Union and the Sculptors Guild. In the 1930s, she began working with wood reliefs, wall sculptures pieced together from painted wood forms that showed the influence of Cubism from her travels in Europe. By the 1940s, she...
