Charles Muench received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from San Jose State University in 1988, studying primarily under Maynard D. Stewart, the son of Utah landscape painter, Leconte Stewart. After receiving his degree, Muench moved to New York City and attended classes at the Art Students League* with David Leffel, Michael Burban, Jack Faragasso, and others. In 1992, he moved to Madrid where he painted the city and countryside, studied Eugenio Velasquez (1817-1870), copied master works in the Prado Museum, and studied at the Circulo Bellas Artes, a cultural centre.
