After moving to Los Angeles from the Midwest in 1908, he was active in the local art scene. He made many sketching trips throughout California and exhibited in Los Angeles galleries through the late 1920s. An Impressionist, he painted plein air landscapes (which often include buildings and other architectural features) as well as rainy street scenes and still lifes.
