He studied at the Academie Julian in Paris with Jean Paul Laurens, and at the National School of Decorative Arts, also in Paris. Frank Convers Mathewson, 1862-1941, was a prolific Rhode Island painter who specialized in watercolors and oils. He is known for his landscapes, florals and marine paintings. He studied at the Academie Julian in Paris with Jean Paul Laurens, and at the National School of Decorative Arts, also in Paris. Early in his career Mathewson spent a year in the design department of the Gorham Manufacturing Company in Providence, Rhode Island, and then joined Frank Vincent DuMond's painting class in Italy. He spent a winter in Munich sharing a studio with Stacy Tolman. Mathewson also painted in New York City for 11 years. He was a member of many art organizations including the Salmagundi Club and the Chicago Water Color Club. A one-time President of... Read full biography
