View to Miloli'i from upper Hookena
This 1970 view towards Miloli’i is filled with bright coloration and detail. Recent lava flows descend from McCandless Ranch to the shore near Ho’okena, which is hidden behind the old building in the middle of the painting. Ke’ei Point is visible between the buildings.

Rocky Cove - Towards Molokai Channel, Hawai'i
This rocky cove is most likely near the famous Halona Beach Cove, which was used as one of the famous scenes in the movie From Here to Eternity, starring Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in 1953. The surging waters from the Molokai Channel have long been an inspiration for many painters.

Windward Beach Park, Oahu
This c. 1940 oil painting depicts a tranquil windward O’ahu beach with its shade trees and the calm blue ocean. A family is enjoying the serene beach and tranquil water. The shore is protected by the distant reef, where the waves are crashing against the coral heads.

Halona Blowhole, Oahu
The Halona Blowhole is one of Hawai‘i’s natural wonders, created thousands of years ago when molten lava tubes were formed from volcanic eruptions. Halona, means “lookout,” in Hawaiian. On clear days, the islands of Moloka‘i and Lana‘i can also be seen in the distance.

Gardens of Ainahau, Waikiki, Honolulu
Ainahau was the name of the ten-acre Waikiki coconut grove and estate given to Princess Kaiulani by her godmother, Princess Ruth Keelikolani, at the baby princess's baptismal ceremony. Ainahau was torn down in 1955 to make room for hotels and residential buildings.

Anthuriums
Russell’s favorite painting subjects included landscapes, seascapes, and still life. Her lively brushwork, colorful palette, and her keen appreciation of the sunlight found in Hawai'i are distinctly impressionistic. A companion woodblock print is Hibiscus.

Windward Grass Shack
A vintage interpretive view of the Hawaiian landscape with a grass shack next to a mountain stream that is flowing down from the Ko?olau Mountains. The viewer can feel the gentleness of a tranquil Windward O?ahu day and the imposing skies so typical of that area.

The third of four proposals for a mural prepared for the Franciscans at St. Leonard's Friary in Centerville, Ohio. Muted colors were used per the architect's request “... be painted in true fresco and in subdued colors with dominant browns, so not to clash with the brilliant colors of the windows."
