My study serves as the magic gate that places me back into the moment of observing what struck me first. I can experience that moment any time and it maybe years after I completed the study even if many memories of that time fade.

This masterful plein air painting is a poetic interpretation of the snow-capped mountains in Grand Teton National Park in western Wyoming, framed by a stand of pine trees, an outcropping of rugged boulders ascending a steep hill, and the blue of Jackson Lake.

I like trying to paint that beautiful sense of space I see when painting a room. The overhead soft light I find so beautiful. I also liked including a couple of my paintings on the wall. I had painted the Mexican chair without anything on it.

The scene captures the essence of a shadowy forest setting with a stand of eucalyptus trees, a sunlit verdant valley in the middle distance, and a purple mountain range rising in the distant background.

The artist portrays his wife, Gloria, in an elegant and refined setting. The drape of her pink silk robe hearkens back to her Chinese ancestry and its contrasting embroidered border creates a diagonal line that exudes a feeling of strength.

In Jean Mannheim’s "Pathway to the Church" a lone figure walks up a narrow dirt path through a field lined with stands of eucalyptus trees, heading toward a beautiful white chapel with a red tiled roof and steeple.

The two Miao girls depicted here are wearing their talents, as evidenced in their fine embroidered clothing and silver jewelry, in hopes of attracting prospective husbands.

The lower third of this landscape painting by Hanson Puthuff, created circa 1930, depicts the dry wash of the Arroyo Seco and the gently rolling green Verdugo foothills. In the middle ground are two Mediterranean-style homes barely visible as they are nestled among a grouping of trees.
