Adolf Henning was born in Berlin in 1809 as son of the court conductor Karl Wilhelm Henning. He studied at the Berlin academy until 1823 and was appointed professor there in 1839. He mainly painted figures and portraits, and thus created medallions with mythological scenes for the Niobidensaal of the Neues Museum in Berlin.
