In 1948, he was introduced to painting by Jane Bowles, the wife of American intellectual Paul Bowles. She became his mentor. Yacoubi's paintings were heavily layered and smoothed through a process he likened to alchemical transformation. In 1951, Paul Bowles defended Yacoubi as a "natural abstractionist" to Betty Parsons, who held an exhibition of his work the following year at her gallery. Peggy Guggenheim also purchased several of his paintings. Yacoubi left Morocco for New York in 1966, where he continued to paint until his death in 1985... Read full biography

Yacoubi's paintings were heavily layered and smoothed through a process he likened to alchemical transformation. In 1951, Paul Bowles defended Yacoubi as a "natural abstractionist" to Betty Parsons, who held an exhibition of his work the following year at her gallery. Peggy Guggenheim also purchased several of his paintings. Yacoubi left Morocco for New York in 1966, where he continued to paint until his death in 1985 at the age of 57.
