Soon he specialized in the representation of horse and rider statues and from 1899 regularly had entries in the big Berlin Art Exhibition. After graduating, Hussmann received a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts and had a private studio in Berlin. In 1914 Kaiser Wilhelm II gave Hussmann the "Golden Medal for Art" for one of his equestrian statues.
