Albert Johansson began his artistic career at Isaac Grünewald's painting school and then went on to the Modern Art School in Stockholm, where he studied with Vilhelm Bjerke-Pedersen and Esaias Thorén, among others. Albert Johansson was early influenced by surrealism but eventually switched to a more non-figurative painting. In this he sometimes approaches Olle Baertling's art and one of his mentors was just the same. Albert Johansson later developed his own design language, where he also experimented with different materials. Many works are executed in concrete putty and adhesive paint, which produces a peculiar relief effect over the motif.
