He further trained in Dresden with Wilhelm Claus and founded the Expressionist Dresden artists' group "Die Schaffenden" in 1920. Bertelson was acquainted with Lovis Corinth and participated in the exhibitions of the Berlin Secession on Corinth's intercession. In 1933, he abandoned painting and faced a painting ban in 1934. He worked as the managing director of the Saxony office of the Nordic Society from ca. 1934-45. Most of his early work was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden in 1945. He further trained in Dresden with Wilhelm Claus and founded the Expressionist Dresden artists' group "Die Schaffenden" in 1920. Bertelson was acquainted with Lovis Corinth and participated in the exhibitions of the Berlin Secession on Corinth's intercession. In 1933, he abandoned painting and faced a painting ban in 1934. He worked as the managing director of the Saxony office of the Nordic Society from ca. 1934-45. Most of his early work was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden in 1945. He moved to Berlin in 1949 and resumed painting in 1967. He later worked in Walchensee. Bertelson died in Berlin in 1975
