Alfonso Gomez Bonifacio was a Spanish artist who began his artistic career in 1955 after winning a painting competition in San Sebastián. He worked as a draughtsman in an advertising studio and held his first individual exhibition in 1958. He settled in Bilbao and presented several solo exhibitions in the second half of the 1960s. In 1968, he moved to Cuenca and established a close professional relationship with Antonio Lorenzo, who introduced him to engraving techniques. He signed a contract with the Juana Mordó gallery in 1970 and his painting became richer during the 1970s. In 1989, he was commissioned to design twenty-six stained glass windows for Cuenca Cathedral. He won the National Engraving Prize in 1993
