In 1949, Caillaud participated in the historic "L'Art Brut" exhibition at the René Drouin Gallery, organized by Jean Dubuffet. He went on to have personal exhibitions in Parisian galleries and two retrospective exhibitions of his work at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris in 1976 and at the Musée Sainte-Croix in Poitiers in 1978.
