Influenced by her father, the artist Gottfried Maria Bachem, and as a multi-talented personality with a lot of interests, Bachem struck out early on her own and worked in different genres of art, besides her activity as a writer. She studied at the Berlin art academy in the 1930s as a student of Ludwig Bartning and Max Kraus. In the meantime, she received her first jobs and published her first graphic works in different magazines. The artist was banned from profession by the National Socialists.
