In 1954, he moved to St. Ives, Cornwall where he was an assistant to sculptor, Barbara Hepworth. She and the circle of artists living in St. Ives, had a major influence on the direction of Wall's work as did Cesar and Brancusi, whom he met on trips to Paris. In 1959 Wall returned to London and began to teach at Ealing College of Art, Middlesex, and then at Central School of Art & Design, from 1962 - 1972, where served as chairman of the Sculpture Department....
