In an extended trip to Paris he became friends with Fernand Léger, Ossip Zadkine and Georges Braque. From 1971 to 1975 Carl Unger held the office of rector at the University of Applied Arts. He was awarded the Austrian State Prize for Painting, the Silver Medal of the XII Triennale in Milan, the Honorary Medal of the City of Vienna in gold and the Great Cross of Merit of the Republic of Austria. He developed a very personal view of art from Expressionism to Cubism and finally to a lyrical abstraction. In his later work he came into vividly colored, gestural, inspired by the informal art design fashion.... Read full biography
