Christian David Gebauer was a respected animal painter and landscapist in the Dutch style, which the contemporaries much appreciated. He studied at the Art Academy in Copenhagen under Christian August Lorentzen for a short time in 1800 and is one of the contemporaries of CW Eckersberg. He studied at the Art Academy in Copenhagen under Christian August Lorentzen for a short time in 1800 and is one of the contemporaries of CW Eckersberg. Using multiple scholarships, Gebauer traveled to Munich, Vienna and Dresden, where he stayed from 1813 to 1814. Christian David Gebauer passed away in Arhus in 1831.
