Claudius Marioton, a French sculptor active in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, was known for his classical sculptures in bronze and marble, as well as portraits. He gained recognition through the Paris Salon and received a third class medal in 1883 for his sculpture "Diogenes." Marioton's work includes small bronze pieces and monumental sculptures, such as the allegorical representation of the city of Lyon on the facade of the Paris City Hall. He also created the bust of Vice-Admiral Georges Charles Cloue. Marioton's brother was the sculptor and medalist Eugène Marioton. Today, his works can be found at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen.
