Landscape and hunting scene painter Clemens Freitag was born on October 24, 1883 in Heisingen (today part of Essen, Germany). He studied at the art academies in Dusseldorf, Berlin and Munich. In Dusseldorf he was taught and greatly influenced by Johann Diedrich "Jean" Hendrichs (1882-1937). Freitag remained in Munich, where he joined the artist association "Der Bund". In Dusseldorf he was taught and greatly influenced by Johann Diedrich "Jean" Hendrichs (1882-1937). Freitag remained in Munich, where he joined the artist association "Der Bund". In 1917 he moved to upper Bavaria, developed a friendship with landscape and hunting scene painter Josef Schmitzberger (1851-1936) and undertook extensive travels to Holland, Tyrol, Switzerland and other places.
