Daniele Fontana was born in Milan in 1900 and passed away in Sala Comacina in 1984. Daniele Fontana was an Italian designer, illustrator and painter. Though he was born in Milan, he often worked in Rome, dividing his time between his work as a satirical designer and illustrator and that of a figurative and genre painter. In these roles he participated in the National Exhibition of Milan (1923, 1925), the Trade Union Exhibition (1928, 1932), becoming a regular guest at the La Permanente exhibition. A great caricaturist, Fontana collaborated on Il Travaso delle idee and with Bertoldo. However, his is also the depiction of the "turreted woman" of Italy, for years the official symbol of the Italian government and state.
