Egor Egorovitch Schreider studied at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg and moved to the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv in 1870 (Russian: Kharkov). He established his center of life there and founded a private art school for landscape painting on site. In addition to scenic motifs such as the river landscape at Siwerskyj Donez or the picturesque windmills from the vicinity of Kiev, Schreider also devoted himself to the lake.
