A prolific writer, he wrote art criticism under the pen name Joan Sacs, becoming one of the most influential art critics. Escaping legal action for some of the controversial cartoons in Papitu, he lived in Paris from 1911 until 1913. He studied art criticism part-time at the Sorbonne and worked as a draftsman.
