Franz von Zülow was born in Vienna in 1883. In 1901, he began his artistic studies at the drawing school in Vienna. After visiting various different academies, he finished his studies at Vienna's arts school in 1906. He created a certain type of paper stencil printing which he got patented in 1907. A year later, he became a member of the Vienna Secession and designed for the "Wiener Werkstätte". He taught ceramic classes in Gmunden. It was not until 1924, that he focused on oil painting. In... Franz von Zülow was born in Vienna in 1883. In 1901, he began his artistic studies at the drawing school in Vienna. After visiting various different academies, he finished his studies at Vienna's arts school in 1906. He created a certain type of paper stencil printing which he got patented in 1907. A year later, he became a member of the Vienna Secession and designed for the "Wiener Werkstätte". He taught ceramic classes in Gmunden. It was not until 1924, that he focused on oil painting. In 1942, he was banned from painting, which was reverted shortly after. In 1949, von Zülow began teaching at the vocational school of art in Linz and was appointed Professor in 1950. In 1958, he was announced honorary member of the Vienna Secession.
