He was patronized by Prince Regent Luitpold and participated in the Venice Biennale in 1905, 1907, and 1909. Behn was a member of the Munich Secession and was awarded the title "Königlich bayerischer Professor" (Royal Bavarian Professor) in 1910. He worked at the universities of Munich and Stuttgart as well as at the Weimar Art Academy. Behn won the tender for the erection of the German colonial war memorial in 1913, but the memorial was not executed.
