Fritz Eisel studied at the University of Architecture and Fine Arts Weimar from 1947-1950, the University of Fine Arts Dresden from 1950-1951, and the Repin Institute in Leningrad from 1951-1957. In 1970 Eisel had a professorship for painting and from 1979 he was the rector of the University of Fine Arts Dresden. In 1982 he became a freelance artist.
