After having started his training at the Academy of Kortrijk, Godefroid Devreese moved to Brussels and continued his training there at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 1881 to 1886, having as teachers the sculptors Eugène Simonis and Charles Van der Stappen. After having started his training at the Academy of Kortrijk, Godefroid Devreese moved to Brussels and continued his training there at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 1881 to 1886, having as teachers the sculptors Eugène Simonis and Charles Van der Stappen. In 1884, he moved to Schaerbeek, which he did not leave until 1939. He lived there successively at no 134 boulevard Lambermont, no 7 rue Quinaux, no 71 rue des Ailes and no 27 avenue Huart Hamoir.
