He exhibited for the first time in Milan in 1923 at the annual exhibition of the Society for Fine Arts and Permanent Exhibition. In this decade he traveled to Berlin, Paris, Madrid and North Africa; frequently he stayed in Switzerland, where it is stated that he was an appreciated portraitist. In 1930 he participated for the first time at the Venice Biennale, with some regularity until 1948.
