He studied at the academies of fine arts in Munich and Weimar from 1907 to 1910, and joined the Berlin Secession in 1911. He was inspired by the Fauves during a study visit to Paris in 1912-1913. He studied at the academies of fine arts in Munich and Weimar from 1907 to 1910, and joined the Berlin Secession in 1911. He was inspired by the Fauves during a study visit to Paris in 1912-1913. In 1917, his works were traded by the Berlin gallery owner and art dealer Paul Cassirer, and in 1919 he became a founding member of the Darmstadt Secession. During the National Socialist regime, his works were declared "degenerate" and removed from museums, and he was banned from working professionally. After the war, he joined the Munich Secession and became chairman of the newly founded artists' association "Der Ring" in Berlin in 1951.... Read full biography
