Deykin was an oil painter, sculptor, and furniture maker born in Edgbaston, Birmingham. He studied at the Slade School and the College of Arts and Crafts in Birmingham. He is best known for a series of 23 paintings depicting the evolution of grass sports, commissioned in 1950-1 by Geoffrey Pugh, head of the lawnmower company Atco Ltd. The series was toured nationally and the collection was later sold by Sotheby’s in 1982.
