Jack Cowin was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1947. He entered Indiana University with an eye on a career as a medical illustrator. Later transferring to fine arts and specializing in printmaking, he completed his BFA in 1969 and received his MFA from the University of Illinois in1971. Cowin then accepted a position in the Fine Arts Dept. at the University of Regina, teaching for 36 years, retiring in 2007.
