A French sculptor born in Moulins, Jacques Antoine Coinchon studied in Paris under David D'Angers before entering the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts on October 2, 1838. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1844 to 1881. On behalf of the French State, he created a statue of Guillaume, son of Tancrède de Hauteville, for Coutances Cathedral, as well as busts of Millevoye, Berthollet and Théophile Gautier.
