Jongkind joined the school of Fountainebleau, greatly influencing the French landscape painters. He was essentially the initiator of contemporary Impressionism, and was really the master of Diaz, Monet, Sisley and Pissarro. Jongkind, who was a master watercolorist, was also a founder of La Societe des Aquafortistes. He ceased exhibiting in 1872 and lived in the mountains; but he returned yearly to... Read full biography
